Humble Lion captain, Andrew Vanzie, will be out for at least six weeks after suffering a fractured metatarsal in the Clarendon derby against Vere United in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence on Sunday.

Vanzie was substituted after only five minutes after he made a sliding tackle on Vere's Tavis Grant and came out the worst.

According to coach Andrew Price, the player will be out for over a month and replacing their captain and leading scorer with two goals will not be an easy task.

"He has a fracture of the metatarsal bone in his left foot. It is the small bone and he will probably be fitted in a protective boot. But he will be out for at least six weeks minimum," he told STAR Sports.

"The captain has been monumental for the team. He has been playing well all season and it is just unfortunate that he got that injury.

"He's a good player. He leads the team well and we just hope to get him back as soon as possible," he added.

He said replacing Vanzie's leadership, his quality and his goals will be difficult but that others will now have to step up.

"We are looking for players to step up and fill the void because his absence will be very immense. We need people to come in and step up at this point in time," he added.

Meanwhile, after keeping their opponents off the scoresheet in their last two games, Price is pleased with their improvement in defence.

Humble Lion sit tenth in the standings on six points after six draws from eight matches, and Price believes that if they can now get it right at the other end of the pitch they will not only claim their first win of the season but will start moving up the table as well.

"We have been working on that (defence) because we have been conceding a lot of goals since the start of the season and for two consecutive games we have got clean sheets. We just need to get it right at the other end and start scoring some goals because that is where we are not doing well, in front of goal," he said.

"But we are headed in the right direction. We have been doing well defensively and we wanted to fix that. We just need to work on our finishing and I ensure that we will get the three points soon.

"The (league) leaders have lost as many games as we have lost. What we need is to start turning those (one point games) into three and we could really move up the table.

"But we are heading in the right direction and it is just to get that first win," he commented.
