‘Bushy’ Beckford raring to go at Jicaral
Former Mount Pleasant and Waterhouse forward Kemar 'Bushy' Beckford, who signed for Costa Rican Premier Division club A.D.R. Jicaral in January, is eager to get his overseas professional career under way and he is confident of making an immediate impact in the Central American country.
Beckford has been in Costa Rica for more than two weeks and says he has been adjusting well, however, he awaits his work permit before he is eligible to play.
"I am here training and everything is alright," Beckford told THE WEEKEND STAR. "The coach and everyone in the club cannot wait for me to play. They like everything they see about my game and they say I can have a big impact.
"Since I have been here, in every training session, I have scored and I push myself and try to be as best as I can be.
"I see that I can make a big impact in the league and I will push myself for the team because I came here to show what I can do and to do my best.
The league breaks after 11 games on March 22 and resume on April 1, and Beckford, whose contract runs to the end of the season, hopes that by then his paperwork will be finalised for him to make his debut against C.S. Cartagines.
The 30-year-old is also slowly learning Spanish and with the support of teammate, Chevone Marsh, another Jamaican player with whom he shares residence, he already feels at home.
"I have a friend here who is teaching me the language," he said. "I am catching on, it is just a matter of time. The most important thing is I understand when the coach gives me instructions.
"Marsh and I live together. We talk about games and training. We push each other and every day after training we sit and discuss things in each other's game.
"He always motivates me and tells me that any time I get my chance, he knows I'm going to do well."
