Waterhouse peaking at right time – Gayle
Waterhouse head coach Marcel Gayle says his team's game is coming together at the right time of the Jamaica Premier League season.
Waterhouse defeated Molynes United 1-0 on Keithy Simpson's ninth-minute penalty to move back within two points of leaders Dunbeholden yesterday with six rounds to go.
Gayle is pleased with how his team closed out the match.
"We started brightly and that is the start we are looking for all season," he said. "We had a wonderful game and with a little more luck in front of the goal, we could have had more goals.
"So kudos to the guys. I think they played well and managed the game very well, and closing the gap to two points is very important at this stage. We just want to stay healthy and stay as close as possible."
Waterhouse got off to a blistering start and just nine minutes into the game, they were awarded penalty when an attacker was fouled in the area.
Simpson fired home the spot kick to give them the lead.
Denardo Thomas then had a shot tipped over the bar, before setting up Simpson, who fired over from six yards out.
Thorn Simpson had a chance late in the half for Molynes but could not convert.
Waterhouse kept creating openings after the break and leading scorer Cardel Benbow, who came on as a substitute, could have had a hattrick.
He first lifted a sitter over an empty goal from 12 yards out, before having an effort blocked at point blank range.
Then late in the match, he headed a free kick wide from eight yards out.
Nicholas Nelson came close for Molynes with a low shot that was well saved, then Milton Brooks headed over a great chance in stoppage time.
Molynes coach Garnet Lawrence said internal issues, which he refused to give further details on when asked, left the team morale low and affected their performance.
"You could see the fear they had for us, but we just did not create any chances to trouble them," he said.
Waterhouse are now second on 36 points, two adrift of Dunbeholden and five ahead of Arnett Gardens.
Molynes stay second from bottom on goal difference with 14 points.
