Basque postpones friendly with Boyz

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) says its game against the Basque Country in Spain on May 27 has been postponed after an agreement with the Basque Football Federation (BFF).

The JFF says the postponement was necessary because Basque is experiencing challenges in securing all the permits required from their local authorities for the game to go ahead, meaning the deadlines given for the permits to be granted had expired.

The JFF says the BFF apologised for the inconvenience caused and that a future match at a date convenient to both teams will be agreed.

The Reggae Boyz will, however, meet Catalonia, also in Spain, in another friendly on May 25.

The JFF said last week that the Catalonia match will be a chance for the technical staff to look mainly at players from Europe and try to incorporate who they can into the squad as early as possible for the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

"This international friendly will offer opportunities to look at players, mainly from Europe," the JFF said. "These new players, depending on the assessment of the technical staff, could play a role in the short, medium, and long-term plans and meet the objective of incorporating new players to our roster as early as possible in a four-year cycle."

After the Catalonia game, the Reggae Boyz will play away to Suriname on June 4, and then at home on June 7 in the Concacaf Nations League. They then take on South American outfit Uruguay on June 11 in an international friendly, before meeting Mexico in the Nations League on June 14 at the National Stadium.
