Back-up selections advised for Sunday race card

SUNDAY's Reggae 6 opener should not be taken for granted, requiring at least four selections to capture the unpredictable form of lower-level claimers, especially on the round course with soundness being a major factor.

Speedy JON P could make all if he reproduces his last run, tearing away from rivals before being overhauled close home by a cavalry charge led by AMAD ALI, HEEZALION and EXPEDITIOUS at five and a half furlongs.

Though the shorter trip of five furlongs should suit JON P, having not raced since June raises serious doubts concerning the eight-year-old's soundness, hence back-up selections are necessary.

T BRADY, similar to JON P, could make hacks of rivals, reporting for a tag halved from $700,000 for which he was claimed on August 1. However, claimers are lamers and must never be taken on form, leaving the door open for BUZZ ASSAULT and KAY BOY as additional back-up.

In the second, CATABA will try making all at five furlongs round. However, MANNY SLAM could stalk and pounce late in the event should CATABA shorten close home.

The third is also a two-horse race to be decided between leader SWEET BERN and ROCK-OLA the closer. Though ROCK-OLA is a sluggard, SWEET BERN is no Flash, especially at six and a half furlongs on what could be a holding track should the scorching sun continue to suck moisture from the surface.

SECRET SENSATION, WORRIES AGAIN and GOOD CONSCIENCE are the runners to be on in the fourth at six furlongs. SECRET SENSATION and GOOD CONSCIENCE are exposed and could be surprised by WORRIES AGAIN, who reports with blinkers, tongue-tie and figure-eight fitted, also improved at exercise, having galloped a mile in 1:44.2.

Bank NEVER to land the fifth at a mile, but take no chances with the Reggae 6 closer. A trio of runners, STEIN, BRISCOE and SECURITY CODE should cover the four-furlong blink sprint.
