Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel toured sections of St James and Hanover on Thursday, a little over a week after the passage of Hurricane Melissa, seeing firsthand the damage caused by the category 5 system.

The entertainer, who arrived in Jamaica just days ago, spoke exclusively to THE WEEKEND STAR, describing the scene in western Jamaica as "crazy" and emphasised that now is the time for everyone to work together. He has committed to doing more in helping Jamaica's recovery, having seen the "catastrophe".

"Just the sight, driving to and from the site and seeing the devastation, it's crazy, crazy out here," Kartel said. Just days after the category 5 hurricane made landfall, doing serious damage especially to western parishes, Kartel told fans that he was coming home. Kartel, through his Adidja Palmer Foundation, delivered a 40-foot container loaded with supplies on Thursday.

"Initially what we doing is emergency activities. We did care packages, we gave them food, medication and vitamins for the children, sanitary items for the ladies, Pampers for the elderly as well and for the kids," Kartel said. His foundation is also feeding 3,400 people in the first tranche.

Kartel and his team visited the Montego Bay Convention Centre where the non-profit organisation World Central Kitchen (WCK) has a major setup. There he met with John Torpey, WCK response director, who showed Kartel around the facility and the operations carried out by the WCK team. The workers were in a frenzy at the presence of the 'Worl Boss' in their 'kitchen'.

Kartel and his team looked around the facility and he opined that it was a joy to see others, especially entertainers who are helping in their own way.

"Even when we were in Canada the other day on a show, me and Spice, and we were telling the people that anything you can give whether is cash, whether is kind or service, even a word of prayer," Kartel said.

The entertainer told THE WEEKEND STAR that his contribution is not a one-off, and there is more to come from his Foundation.
