Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says toll roads may be opened free of cost if traffic congestion occurs as Jamaica braces for Tropical Storm Melissa.

Vaz made the disclosure during a media briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister in St Andrew on Thursday.

He said the operators of the highway toll roads are on alert to respond immediately to any emergency directive from the Transport Ministry.

According to Vaz, if traffic buildup happens because of panic or evacuation activity, he will issue directives allowing commuters to use the toll roads without charge.
