Versi salutes Portland on new album
Following a standout performance at Miami's Best of the Best festival earlier this year, recording artiste Versi says he is ready to establish himself among dancehall's elite.
He's hoping to accomplish that through his debut album, P.V.O. (Portland's Very Own), which is an ode to his humble beginnings in the parish. Versi, who has been steadily climbing the musical hierarchy in the entertainment industry, said the album is a reflection of hard work and determination.
"This album took a lot out of me both physically and mentally but I am pleased with the final outcome and I am equally optimistic the fans will appreciate my effort. This project represents my growth, my story, and my connection to Portland--the place that made me who I am and I can't wait to see what it does on the music scene," he said.
The 17-track compilation sees collaborations with a number of dancehall heavyweights, including Chronic Law, Valiant and Rygin King. According to Versi, each entertainer brought a different element to the album, making it a versatile body of work bound to capture everyone's attention.
"This album has a little bit of everything and so everyone will have a song they can relate to," he said.
P.V.O. (Portland's Very Own) was released on August 29. It was executively produced by Cawvinz Entertainment, with additional production from CJ The Chemist, Din Din Hempton, Dinesty King, Jay Crazie, and Billboard-charting producer Kemar 'Flava' McGregor.
"The reaction so far has been amazing. I'm happy that people are loving the songs because I really went all out to ensure what I was releasing was a quality reflection of my artistry. I have to say thanks to all the artistes who supported the vision and jumped on a few of the tracks," he said.
Speaking of his collaborators, the entertainer shared that the album also features work from veteran artistes including Ginjah and Louie Culture, and from emerging acts, Modala and Bingy Linkz.
